“Thanks for the advice re the gear change problem. It was not the pinch bolt but the bush that holds the universal joint next the pinch bolt in place. It had just disintegrated with age. Anyway, it was a ten pound part and a simple enough job for me to do myself. |

“Thanks for your advice on Saturday, it was spot on. Removing that plate behind the front seats revealed a gear shift linkage with a plastic / bakerlite mounting that had disintegrated. Using a carefully ripped and folded piece of paper and a plastic tie, I regained all of the gears except 2nd. Can you let me know if you have one of these spares, or how easy they are to get hold of, as I'd like to get second gear back into service. Other than that I'm chuffed to bits with the car.” |

"What can I say? What a civilised way to travel extremely quickly! Given the wet conditions I took it fairly carefully & once my nerves had settled a bit I really began to enjoy the experience, the seats in particular on a long journey are supremely comfortable. Cruising in fifth gear on the motorway this car is unbelievably quick, & on a good road surface the comfort & road noise are better than I had expected. For a 10 year old car it is very impressive indeed. Good condition, great noise & very fast!" |
